Abstract

The objective of this article is to reflect on the snowy Huaytapallana and its implications in the Mantaro Valley, which in the very near future we will have to face each of us who live in this part of the country. We have chosen the theme, thanks to a visit made on July 17 with a group of students of the Doctorate in Environmental Sciences and Sustainable Development to the snowy Huaytapallana, where we observed the importance that this has, for the inhabitants of the Mantaro Valley. Currently the Huaytapallana is in a process of deglaciation due to the process of global warming in which we find ourselves immersed, which has been accelerated by the human action that contributes daily with the disappearance of the Nevado. Some inhabitants interviewed in the town of Acopalca said that the climate in recent times is going crazy, and point out that “the cold and heat are unbearable is not as before.” In these agony conditions, where the snow-capped mountain faces an incurable disease, what remains for the institutions and residents to do is to become aware of the flagrant problem.
