Stigmatization and Perceived Social Support in Adult Patients with Tuberculosis at a Health Center in the District of Ate, 2026

Keywords: perceived social support, stigmatization, tuberculosis patients and health center

Abstract

The objective was to determine the relationship between stigmatization and perceived social support in adult tuberculosis patients at a health center in the Ate district. This was a basic research study with a quantitative approach and a non-experimental, correlational design. The sample consisted of 84 male and female patients diagnosed with tuberculosis who attend the health institution's program. The Van Rie Tuberculosis Stigma Scale (2008) was used as the instrument, and the Perceived Social Support Scale (Zimet et al., 1988) was used for the other variable. The results show a p-value of 0.122, greater than 0.05, indicating no relationship between stigmatization and perceived social support in adult tuberculosis patients. It is concluded that the presence of stigmatization in individuals is not linked to the social support received by tuberculosis patients.
