Abstract

International crimes include war crimes, crimes against humanity, and genocide. Understanding their meaning is both an important and challenging task, as deliberations on the recent historic upsurge in the Israel/Palestine conflict emerge amid complex debates about war and the limits of violence. This article seeks to recapture the visibility of the international body of law that regulates warfare and which tends to be treated in the background of public debate. It identifies 6 areas of legal-political dispute with relevance for international law and the transformation of the conflict in question.
